They all marveled at Fabrege's lapis lazuli egg
that opened in half to reveal a yellow sphere
resting in lapis white.
It in turn was cut and hollowed out
to hide inside a replica of the Czar's crown.

To compound the surprise,
inside this crown, on a golden thread,
hung a translucent ruby
the size of a humming bird's egg.

O Presence, declare
that when white and yolk are cut
life is split apart.
A hinged crown will let a kingdom rendered depart,
and that in time a tiny ruby egg will change
into a drop of a hemophiliac's blood.
